What I Learned From David Lynch's Movies?

Image
What David Lynch Movies Taught Me?  David Lynch Unlike other people who talk or write about films and shows, I'm not or never have been a movie buff per se. My attachment to films comes from the spectacle that a screen can be. I have very limited knowledge of films and the art and yet I dared innocently to take the chance and watch the whole filmography of David Lynch, the truest surrealist of our times.

Extraction Movie Review || One Word: Bland

Image
Extraction Movie Review Extraction is an action film directed by Sam Hargrave and stars Chris Hemsworth and Randeep Hooda in the lead. Ovi Mahajan, son of the biggest drug lord of India is kidnapped by the biggest drug lord of Bangladesh. Rake (Chris Hemsworth) and his team of mercenaries is paid to extract the kid safely out of Bangladesh and return him to India. But something goes wrong and now  Rake is stuck in Bangladesh with this kid and the film is how they try to get out of the country while everyone is on their hunt. I would have never watched this film because I knew what it's going to be but I did for the review and so let's get into what works and what doesn't with this film. What I liked Camerawork & Stunts The camerawork and stunts in this film are worth praising. Sam Hargrave is a stuntman and you can actually see that the movie is directed by a stuntman in action sequences. The one on one combat and close combat with ...

Train To Busan || Best Film To Watch In A Pandemic

Image
Train To Busan Movie Review While everyone is watching outbreak movies I think I have pretty much watched every good zombie movie out there. Train To Busan, upon its release in 2016 was praised worldwide and hailed as a zombie masterpiece at the time. I never got the chance to watch it but this lockdown is giving so much time to us that I'm finally catching up.  Train To Busan is a Korean film, directed by Yeon Sang-Ho and stars Gong Yoo, Kim Soo-Ahn, Ma Dong- Seok Sang-Hwa and others. I am not familiar with this director nor the actors even their names are not pronounceable to me. I rarely watch Korean movies, like one or two per year but they are always on par with or even better than what Hollywood produces.  Train to Busan is basically a horror sci-fi movie set in South Korea where the nation falls as the viral outbreak and the zombies take over. In this review, I'll try to sum up why it is hailed as the best zombie film and why it needs to be watched amids...

Midsommar || Your Ex Girlfriend's Fantasy

Image
Midsommar Movie Review You can tell how visually stunning this movie it's by its poster! Midsommar is a horror movie written and directed by Hereditary fame Ari Aster starring Florence Pugh, Will Poulter, and Jack Reynor.  'A couple travel to Sweden to visit their friend's rural hometown for its fabled midsummer festival, but what begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.' - Official Movie Premise Now this movie came out in 2019 and went unnoticed by me, somehow but in the ongoing lockdown I got to finally see this movie. I loved hereditary on all the fronts as an entertaining as well as a serious movie. going into Midsommar I had expected at least to be scared but Nah, I was totally disappointed.  I have a mixed feeling whether I liked this movie or not but let's just get on with the review and try to find out whether you should watch it or not because it...

I Am Mother || Nature or Nurture?

Image
I AM MOTHER || Movie Review Pathfinder anyone? Consuming Sci-fis is a great way to be sad, get depressed and drown yourself in nihilism yet somehow they manage to induce hope, motivation, and love in our minds.  I watched the Netflix Exclusive I AM MOTHER last night and it is a great Sci-Fi revolving around the same interesting or boring, overused debate of Artificial Intelligence or Humans. Can AI really take place of humans? What it means to be sentient? Are emotions exclusive to us only or they can be simplified down to binaries? Also. why humans need to go extinct for a better world. This has been an interesting debate for me since I was a kid and I always find these boring movies a great way to forget about the current issues and focus more on the issues that we may have to face in our species future.  Let's get into the review. What I Liked? The Plot & The Direction A teenage girl is raised by a robot designed to repopulate Earth. Thei...

The Hunt || A Movie 'Woke' Liberals Should Watch

Image
The Hunt || Movie Review Only the 'woke' liberals will understand the literature, amma right bois? The Hunt directed by Craig Zobel and stars people whom I won't name because it will be a spoiler.  This movie inspired a lot of controversy in America and I still don't understand why. It all that Hillary, Trump, 'Racist' Hollywood, blah blah bullshit. As an Indian, or even as a left or right winged guy, I don't find anything that is even remotely offensive in this movie. Rather I think this movie perfectly reflects the current creation of online echo chambers and nicely tries to criticize it.  ' Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don't know where they are -- or how they got there. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, ruthless elitists gather at a remote location to hunt humans for sport. ' This is part of the official premise of the movie which I have partly pasted because the movie was and other movies a...

Knives Out || An Excellent Film To Watch In These Times

Image
Knives Out || Movie Review At least one of your favorite actors is in this film. Knives Out is a murder mystery, basically, who did it kind of film directed by Rian Johnson starring heavy hitters such as Danial Craig, Michael Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Chris Evans, Christopher Plummer, as well as rising talents like Lakeith Stanfield, Ana de Armas, and Catherine Langford. I don't remember the last time I watched a feel-good movie, maybe it was a rewatch of LoTR in 2017 but after that nothing of sorts nor do I remember watching a 'who did it?' kind of movie, maybe it was Altered Carbon in 2018. Knives Out was on my watchlist since it came out and today I finally watched it and so here's my review of Knives Out. What I liked? The Plot & The Direction All of them are lying. Harlen Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is a super-rich crime novelist and on the night after his 85th birthday is killed.  All of the family members were...

Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey || Movie Review

Image
As Boring As Suicide Squad? All the posters are pretty amazing. Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey or Birds of Prey AND THE FANTABULOUS EMANCIPATION OF ONE HARLEY QUINN is just a Harley Quinn movie directed by Cathy Yan having a cast full of pretty women such as Margot Robbie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollet-Bell and Rosie Perez.  I wasn't interested in the movie at all but still gave it a go today and believe me if you hated the 2016s Suicide Squad then you should probably skip this movie. I don't have much good stuff to talk about and this whole review will be me ranting over this painfully boring movie. What I liked? We all can agree that no one else can play Harley Quinn's character as good as Margot Robbie. Her acting is the saving grace of this film. Other actresses have also acted well. They did best with all those cheesy dialogues and one-liners. They were able to make me laugh a little once in a while. Another thing that I like is a fe...

The Invisible Man || Movie Review

Image
The Invisible Man || Movie Review The Invisible Man is a sci-fi horror directed by Leigh Whannell starring Elisabeth Moss, Aldis Hodge, and Storm Reid. Cecilia (Elisabeth Moss) somehow manages to escape from her crazed, scientist and billionaire boyfriend Adrian (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). The scientist commits suicide and all the wealth that he owned is now passed on to Cecilia. Cecilia, Paranoid after the escape, is now somewhat relieved after the death of her boyfriend. But is he really dead? Because Cec feels someone is always around her, someone is always watching her. She doe not believe that Adrian committed suicide she thinks he became invisible. No one believes her and now she has to take on Adrian all by herself to stay alive. Now, the premise may not sound interesting when we have watched stuff like Hollow Man in our childhood. These invisible man stories never work as a horror, sci-fi, mystery or thriller. Even as a kid I was not scared by The Hollow Man. But I ...
